Addison R. Starks, Sr., was born March 12, 1904 in Greenup, Kentucky, son of Rachel Woodland. He married Cecil Proctor in Franklin County on December 15, 1924. Cecil was born November 28, 1899 in Cincinnati, daughter of Betty Proctor. They had four children: Starling (1924), Melberta (August 8, 1925 - April 2, 1993), Addison R., Jr., (1928 - November 20, 1978), Barbara Lee (October 10, 1930 - May 21, 1932). In 1920, Cecil was an inmate of the Institution for the Feeble Minded on West Broad Street. Addison and Cecil separated about 1929. In 1930, Starling and Addison, Jr., were inmates of the Franklin County Childrens' Home. Cecil and Melberta were boarders with the Waters family at 147 Monroe Avenue. Cecil worked as a maid for the Montgomery L. Hart family at 2600 Maryland Avenue. Barbara Lee Starks died May 21, 1932 from septicemia after suffering second degree burns on the lower half of her body from falling into hot water. Before 1935, Addison married Margaret Mary White. Mary was born about 1912 in North Carolina. Addison worked as a porter for the Lazarus department store and the Starks lived at 1100 Atcheson Street. Addison died in Columbus on November 18, 1964. He is buried at Greenlawn cemetery. |
