205 Woodland Avenue
McAllister House

Lot 22 and part of lot 21 Hannah M. Taylor's Addition

This house was completed in 1901 for the McAllisters.

Willis Corydon McAllister was born December 5, 1856 probably in Delaware County, Ohio, son of Robert D. and Mary Armstrong McAllister. He married Louise A. Hamilton in Franklin County on July 15, 1885. Louise was born November 4, 1862, daughter of Cornelius S. and Louisa Hamilton. They had two children, Marion Hamilton (August 1889) and Willis Hamilton (September 22, 1896 - December 12, 1972).

Before moving here, the McAllisters lived at 941 Franklin Avenue. McAllister was a partner in McAllister, Mohler and Company, a well-known furniture store at 142-146 North High Street. In 1905 McAllister was also Secretary of The Buckeye Transfer and Storage Company.

Willis died November 16, 1912. Louise died January 26, 1946. The McAllisters are buried at Greenlawn Cemetery.

On May 5, 1917 Louise McAllister sold the house to the Millers.

Charles W. Miller was born May 11, 1862 in Columbus, son of Charles F. and Anna Lintner Miller. He first married Lydia Bauerle in Franklin County on February 18, 1885. Lydia was born December 1, 1880, daughter of John Bauerle. They had a son, Warren John (June 20, 1886 - September 30, 1959). Lydia died October 3, 1888.

Charles married Mary King Park in Franklin County on January 7, 1903. Mary was born about May 20, 1867 in Worthington, Ohio. Mary probably died on December 20, 1922.

Charles married the widow of William E. Restieaux, Sarah Freeman in Franklin County on January 29, 1930. Sarah was born November 19, 1871 in Columbus, daughter of Lewis C. and Maria A. Conklin Freeman.

Miller was Secretary of The Jeffrey Manuafacturing Company in 1913, he was later a Vice President. Before moving here, the Millers lived at 832 Franklin Avenue.

Warren lived here at least through 1930 and was a factory clerk. He married before 1940 and moved to Upper Arlington.

Charles died November 27, 1931. Sarah died October 28, 1954. The Millers are buried at Greenlawn Cemetery.

On November 26, 1954, Warren J. Miller sold the house to
Abe A. Wolman, and three others.

The house was apparently converted to a rooming house or apartments about that time.

The Columbus Dispatch of January 2, 1972 reported that Eileen Kuder, 53, resident of 205 Woodland Avenue was robbed by two young men at her home.

On December 8, 1975, William G. and Brenda J. Horn purchased the house.

On May 12, 1977, Harold W. and Martha R. Bishop purchased the house and a neighboring parcel.

The Columbus Dispatch of September 27, 1978 reported that Robert Paul Henry, 16, of 205 Woodland Avenue was found guilty of negligent homicide in the shooting death of his mother, Sylvia on August 2, 1978.
