Truesdell House

Lot 3 and part of 2 Clifton Park Addition

This Tudor style stone and stucco home was completed in 1923 for the Truesdells.

Wilt Leverett Truesdell was born October 14, 1867 in Busti, New York, son of Francis J. "Frank" and Lena Wise Truesdell. He married his second wife, Clara Louisa Keller on June 26, 1915. Clara was born July 13, 1883 in Lancaster, Ohio, daughter of John B. and Elizabeth Hartman Keller. 

Wilt was manager of the Postal Telegraph Cable Company in 1902. In 1913 and until moving to this house, the Truesdells lived at 102 Wilson Avenue. In 1913 Wilt was secretary and general manager of The Columbus Dental Manufacturing Company, manufacturers of false teeth and dental supplies. He was later president of the company. 

Wilt and his brother Carl trademarked the word "Rosemist" for a tooth wash preparation in 1895.

Wilt died September 8, 1934. He is buried at Forest Rose Cemetery in Lancaster, Ohio. 

Clara married Bernardo H. Karmen after 1940. They moved to Chatsworth, California. Clara died in Los Angeles on February 2, 1973.

Clara sold the house to the Overstreets on July 29, 1944.

James William "Red" Overstreet was born June 21, 1888 in Thaxton, Virginia, son of James H. Overstreet. His second marriage was to Betty Zettler Krumm about 1936. 
Betty was born October 7, 1910. 

Overstreet first married Roselle/Rosel Elizabeth Killey in Eckman, West Virginia on April 29, 1914. They had a daughter, Emily B. (August 6, 1919 - November 10, 1971). Roselle died of pneumonia in Bluefield, West Virginia on October 12, 1926. 

Overstreet moved to Columbus from Bluefield, West Virginia after 1930. Overstreet was president of the National Electric Coil Company. 

Bluefield (Virginia) Daily Telegraph, January 26, 1936, "Mr. J. W. Overstreet To Wed Charming Columbus, O. Girl -Much Interest Is Centered In Forthcoming Marriage Of Miss Betty Zettler Krumm To President Of National Electric Coil Company - Mr. and Mrs. John Zettler Krumm, 31 Jefferson avenue, Columbus, O., announce the engagement: of their daughter. Betty Zettler, to Mr. James William Overstreet, of Columbus, O., and Bluefleld. W. Va., Miss Krumm Is a graduate of Columbus School for Girls, attended National College of Education, at Evanston, Ill., and Ohio State university, where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. Mr. Overstreet is the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. James Henry Overstreet of Bedford, Va. He is president of the National Electrlc Coil Company. Much interest is centered on the engagement announcement, on account of tho popularity of Mr. Overstreet and his charming fiancee. The date for the wedding has not been announced."

In 1954 the Overstreets lived at 24 Session Drive in Bexley. 

Betty died August 26, 1973. James died May 24, 1980. They are interred at Greenlawn Cemetery. 

On November 1, 1952 the Giles purchased the house from the Overstreets for $22,000.

Dr. Howard DeBosse Giles was born May 27, 1899 in Knoxville, Tennessee, son of Alex and Besie Hardy Giles. He married Estella Mae Blue in Franklin County on June 23, 1930. Estella was born September 27, 1902 in Homestead/Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, daughter of Ralph and Rebecca Morgan Blue. They had two sons, Hawood D. (June 23, 1941) and Harold D. (June 14, 1944 - September 29, 2006).

Giles graduated from he Ohio State University College of Medicine in 1927. 

In 1932 the Giles lived at 479 Eldridge Avenue and Dr. Giles' office was at 867 Mt. Vernon Avenue. About 1940 until 1952, the Giles lived at 1318 East Long Street. In 1958, Giles had an office at 875 Mt. Vernon Avenue. 

Estelle died December 20, 1963. Howard died March 22, 1978. 

On August 28, 1978 the Caines purchased the house from the estate of Dr. Giles for $57,000. 

Thomas Isaac Caine III was born March 20, 1939, son of Thomas Isaac and Dorothy Lena Person Caine. He married Rose Marie Jennings. Rose Marie was born May 6, 1938, daughter of John and Henrietta Jennings. They have a son, Thomas Isaac, IV (March 17, 1960).
