From 1956 to 1960, William J. Butler (Julia M) lived here. William was a teacher at Champion Junior High School. The Butlers built and owned the apartment building at 514 Taylor Avenue. Birth: Aug. 3, 1918 Texas, USADeath: Oct. 22, 2009 Julia M. Aycock Butler, 91, born August 3, 1918 in Rockdale, Tex., passed away Thursday, October 22, 2009. After graduating from Phyllis Wheatley High School in San Antonio, she received a Bachelor's Degree from Wilberforce University, a Master's Degree in Guidance and Counseling and a Doctorate in Educational Psychology from The Ohio State University. During her career with Columbus Public Schools, Julia worked as an elementary teacher, guidance counselor, school psychologist, and retired as an administrator. She served on the boards of the Eldon Ward YMCA, Project Linden, and the Association of the Developmentally Disabled, and held memberships with the Columbus Education Association, American Psychologist Association, the Columbus Association of Black Psychologist, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., The Links, Inc., Jack and Jill of America, Inc., and The Moles, Inc, to name a few. She was a longtime member of Second Baptist and Good Shepherd Baptist Churches before becoming a faithful member of St. Philip's Episcopal Church. Preceded in death by her loving husband of 57 years William "Cy" Butler, son William Aycock Butler, parents B.Y. and Julia Aycock, sisters Lasca Aycock Jones and Orlean, brothers B.Y. Aycock and J.O. Aycock, a nephew and five sisters-in-law. Survived by son, William James Butler II; daughter, Courtney Butler Robinson; grandchildren, Kemberly Robinson and Charles William Butler; sister-in-law, Marion Rebecca Butler; a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews; other relatives and dear family friends. Celebration of Life 12 noon, Monday, November 2, 2009 at St. Philip's Episcopal Church, 166 Woodland Avenue, with organizational tributes from 10:30-11 a.m. and family receiving friends from 11 a.m. until the start of service.
